The Cradle of Samba
Samba lives here.
From old popular processions to the Pequenas Áfricas, from the Tias Baianas to the first samba schools, discover fundamental encounters, characters, and territories for the birth of samba and Carioca Carnival.
Before Sapucaí, there were the streets, the backyards, the terreiros, the ranchos, the blocos, and the cordões.
In the Pequenas Áfricas, in Praça XI, and in the homes of the Tias Baianas, ancestry, music, and community life paved the way for the birth of samba and the first schools.
Here begins a story of encounters, resistance, creation, and belonging that has never stopped pulsing.
