RioCarnavalExpo
The Exhibition

Exhibition Circuit

From the Origin to the Apotheosis

The exhibition unfolds like a grand parade.

Visitors start from the origins and history of samba, step behind the scenes of preparation, witness the transformation of ideas into costumes, floats, music, and movement, and reach the thrill of the staging area and Sapucaí. In the end, they cease to be mere spectators and become protagonists themselves. This journey is organized in the project into four main narrative axes.

Where the Parade Passes

0Reception and Ticket Office

Ticket office, coat check, and the interactive map of Rio's samba schools: the starting point of the tour.

1Abre-Alas

Cross the portal and step into the universe of samba schools. Sound, sparkle, and movement announce the start of a journey that reveals Carnival as art, history, and cultural identity.

2The Cradle of Samba

From old popular processions to the Pequenas Áfricas, from the Tias Baianas to the first samba schools, discover fundamental encounters, characters, and territories for the birth of samba and Carioca Carnival.

3Samba Artisans

Meet some of the people who work all year round to put a school on the Avenida. Stories of talent, knowledge, and dedication that show Carnival is, above all, made by people for people.

4The Carnival Designer's Room

Enter the creative universe of carnival designers and discover how research, references, drawings, sketches, prototypes, and endless imagination begin to shape a parade.

5Costume Workshop

Feathers, fabrics, embroidery, sequins, colors, and shapes turn sketches into costumes. Discover the processes and professionals who bring to life the characters that fill the Avenue, and create your own costume too.

6Floats and Engineering

Behind a float lies an extraordinary blend of design, sculpture, structures, mechanisms, painting, and engineering. Discover how ideas reach monumental scale and transform into sculptures in motion.

7The Pulsing Drum Section

Surdos, tamborins, repiques, cuícas, and hundreds of drummers create the heartbeat that guides a samba school down the Avenue. Discover the instruments, bossas, paradinhas, and experience the rhythm of samba.

7The Dancing Body

Samba is also told through movement. Learn the history and power of the passistas (samba dancers) and try out a few steps of samba no pé.

8The Samba-Enredo

Popular poetry, sung literature, and soundtrack of the parade, the samba-enredo transforms a narrative into music and makes thousands of people sing together. Listen to great sambas, discover their stories, and sing your heart out.

9Front Commission

Dance, theater, costuming, and innovation meet in the front commission. It introduces the samba school and turns the first verses of the samba into motion.

10/11The Concentration and the Immersive Sapucaí

Wings meet. Floats line up. The drum section warms up. Anticipation builds. Enter the moment right before the parade and feel the energy of those about to step onto Sapucaí. Colors, music, dance, and emotion fill the space. An immersive experience places visitors inside the parade and celebrates Sapucaí as a stage for multiple arts and a monumental collective creation.

12Destaque: The Samba Epic

Meet the champions, revisit iconic moments, and participate in experiences that put you inside the celebration. Vote, create, experiment, and leave your mark on the memory of Carnival.
